TWO cavers trapped underground by rising floodwater near Ingleton have been found following a dramatic rescue operation.

Two men from the Wirril entered Swinsto Pot in the Kingsdale system at around 11am on Sunday.

But rainfall over the weekend caused water levels to rise quickly, trapping them below ground.

A concerned friend called the Cave Rescue Organisation based in Clapham at 4pm and a full team was mobilised to try and find them.

Twelve rescuers were sent underground last night and a further eight worked above ground and located them in the early hours of this morning (Mon 19).

The pair were led out of the cave system at the Kingsdale Master Cave’s main entrance.

A spokesman for the Cave Rescue Organisation said: “We noticed the rising water levels yesterday afternoon.

"It will have been very cold and wet overnight down there.

"The main thing is these two men are still with us.”
