A NEW chapter in Kendal’s regeneration began as the £100 million K Village shopping complex opened its doors today.
Within minutes of the official opening crowds of shoppers converged on the upmarket riverside development – all curious to get a first glimpse of what was on offer.
They came from near and far, with coaches ferrying visitors in from all over the UK and hundreds of motorists taking advantage of the free car parking spaces.
Many locals, too, were eager to enjoy the new shopping experience.
The centre was officially opened by Kendal Mayor Coun John Veevers along with Jonathan Somervell, whose family founded the famous K Shoes factory, and Shamus Jennings. chairman of Kendal Riverside Ltd.
It includes a heritage centre charting the 160-year history of Kendal’s famous footwear brand.
Stores which have opened include Alexon, Double Two, Klass, Lakeland Leather, ProCook, Whittards of Chelsea, Staccatos, All Wellan Good and The Works, Domo, Denby, Mountain Warehouse, Bedeck, Cotton Traders, Julian Graves, Cadbury, Costa Coffee and Moes Grill.
