Earthquake recorded in South Lakeland

4:23pm Monday 6th September 2010

AN earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale has been recorded in South Lakeland.

The British Geological Survey recorded the tremor between Endmoor and Old Town, at 8.13am, on Friday, September 3.

The quake was felt by Wendy Chandler, from Watchgate, Selside, who said: “I felt a real shudder as if there was something big like a lorry being unloaded. It was like a roll of thunder but physical and all the doors and windows shook. It lasted for about a minute. We have quite a history of them here in Cumbria.”

The tremor follows similar quakes in the Windermere and Bentham areas which were recorded in early August.
