TWO popular pubs on Kendal’s Highgate are experiencing a new lease of life following an extensive £170,000 investment.

The Fleece, which is owned by Punch Taverns and run by Michael Peart and Leanne Alderson, has had a £55,000 makeover, with the New Inn, run by Susan Dawson, having a full refurbishment costing £115,000.

As well as the traditional interior design at the Fleece Inn - which includes a new log burner to complement the old style country Inn - the pub has been redecorated externally with new signage and a smoking shelter has been installed in the beer garden. The Fleece also has new function room facilities to cater for all.

Susan Dawson, licensee of the New Inn, said: “We’ve received a lot of positive comments from our customers after having a full refurbishment. We’ve opened up the bar area to make it more welcoming and our customers have really noticed a difference!”

Leanne and Michael, licensees of The Fleece Inn, said that it was important that the pub kept its local identity within the community.

“The Fleece has a lot of history, and customers from many years ago will pop in and share their memories,” said Ms Alderson.
