Yuck, one of the hottest shoegaze acts to emerge in recent years, play Lancaster on February 20 and Manchester on February 25.

The quartet is made up of brother and sister Daniel and Ilana Blumberg, as well as Japanese bassist Mariko Doi and American drummer Jonny Rogoff.

Daniel said he thought of the name Yuck a few years ago as he thought the name was “cool”.

Light grunge/rock is the best way to describe songs from their self-tittled debut album, Yuck, which will hit stores on Monday.

Based in north London, the band has already got tongues wagging about their future success — tipped by the music industry as being a band to watch throughout this year.

Two of the band members, Daniel and Mariko, were once part of Cajun Dance Party, who had a brief spell of starlight a few years ago.

However, with the added talents of Ilana and Jonny, they are sure this band will be around for a long while yet.

“I’m really excited about coming to Lancaster," said Daniel.

"I’ve heard it’s going to be in a library in the daytime, which sounds good.

"We have never played a daytime gig so it should be interesting.

“We aren’t trying to achieve any particular sound, we’re just writing and seeing what happens."

He said he thought playing at Kendal Calling “would be amazing”.

“We are heading to a few festivals in Europe but Kendal Calling sounds amazing.

"I haven’t heard about it before but sometimes they’re the best gigs — last year we played at the End of the Road festival which I’d never heard of and it was great.”

* Yuck play a matinee gig at Lancaster Library on Sunday, February 20 (£6.50); then Manchester's Night & Day Cafe on Friday, February 25.
