INGLETON sprang a surprise when they beat a young Bowerham/Furness side 2-1 in the Sam Price Memorial Challenge Cup,.

Bowerham threatened to overrun Ingleton in the early stages, but Ingleton hung on.

Ingleton are great cup fighters and got back into the game but it stood a 1-1 after Andy Strachan scored for Bowerham and Philip Easterby for Ingleton.

With just five minutes remaining Easterby’s deft header went in off the far post for a 2-1 lead.

Bowerham’s Tom Leslie beat four men on a mazy run but finished with a weak shot and seconds later the Ingleton keeper made a superb one-handed save to ensure Ingleton’s trip to Highgrove in the next round.

Swarthmoor SC spoiled the day of Galgate’s new manager Ian Hardman with a 3-2 victory in the Sam Price.

Swarthmoor’s scorers were Mike Tomsett, Ritchie Sandham and Joel Lackey, who scored the goal of the game to win the tie just before extra time would have been necessary.

Bentham pushed Slyne-with-Hest to extra time, goals from Oliver Harrison and James Earnshaw extending the tie, but Slyne scored twice more to seal the victory.

In the Premier Division the wheels looked to have fallen off for Cartmel.

Having conceded four goals last week, they conceded a further five when easily beaten 5-0 by Carnforth Rangers.

Carnforth was far superior to Cartmel who were a shadow of the side that beat these rivals 3-1 in the opening game of the season.

Goals for Carnforth were scored by Mark Plevey, Byron Nixon, Matthew Garwood (2) and Vernon Middleton.

Ingleton Reserves moved off the bottom of Division 1 when Danny Murray struck twice in a 2-1 win over Marsh United Reserves.

Promotion-seeking Kirkby Lonsdale defeated Storeys Reserves 3-2, taking their chances well with Andrew Metcalf scoring twice and Yaffa Bojang bagging the winner.

Grange stayed unbeaten in Division 2 after a hard fought 3-0 win over Torrisholme.

A good cross found Matthew Dean and an excellent first touch allowed him to score. Leading scorer Karl Davidson scored the second with a first-time under the keeper and Dean’s astute pass put in Ryan McKenny to score a third and decisive goal.

Burton Thistle outplayed Trimpell Reserves in Division 3 for a 3-0 win with goals from Chris Plevey and a fine brace by Paul Baxendale.

In Division Four, Burton Thistle Reserves made it a double for the club when they beat Heysham Reserves 3-2 with Matthew Sprules, Richard Sykes and Jack Brown on target.
