DRIVERS in Kendal have endured lengthy journeys to work this week.

The town’s main roads have been heavily congested with some motorists seen turning their vehicles around to find alternative routes.

However, Cumbria County Council spokesman Chris Little said there are not any major roadworks in place in Kendal.

Clare Dixon leaves home at 7.45am to take her daughter to nursery in Captain French Lane.

She then heads to work in New Hutton but is forced to sit through three sets of traffic light changes on Allhallows Lane before being able to continue her journey.

The journey through Kendal usually takes Ms Dixon 30 minutes but this week her journeys have been closer to 50 minutes.

“It’s ridiculous at the moment,” said Ms Dixon.

“It doesn't make any difference if I avoid town and go over the Vicarage estate or Kirkbarrow because no one takes any notice of the junction box at the end of Vicarage Drive or Glebe Road.”
