A man’s ear was severed in a fight near The Shakespeare pub in Kendal last night.
At 7.50pm, police received reports of a group of men fighting in Shakespeare Yard.
Around five police vehicles and an ambulance were called to the scene.
By the time officers arrived, the fight had dispersed but they found a 30-year-old man nearby.
He had injuries - including to his ear - and was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Officers discovered part of the man’s ear on the ground in Shakespeare Yard and cordoned off the scene until 9pm for forensic examinations.
The man was later transferred to Furness General Hospital in Barrow for treatment to his ear.
Later in the evening, police arrested three men on suspicion of assault.
Two men from Kendal - aged 25 and 27 - and a 27-year-old Ambleside man remain in custody.
Detectives investigating the incident have urged witnesses to contact Kendal CID on 0845 33 00 247.
