Lantern procession lights up town

10:14pm Saturday 16th September 2006

ULVERSTON proved it knows how to put on a show when the awe-inspiring 24th Lantern Procession took over the town on Saturday (September 16).

Thousands of people witnessed a spectacular carnival of light and music winding its way through the streets.

Three 'rivers' of light, with people carrying intricately designed lanterns, congregated at the Coronation Hall at 8.30pm and headed towards Ford Park in time for a vibrant finale.

The Devil's Jukebox, a giant lantern which opened up to reveal a burning effigy, was the main feature, not forgetting the wonderfully-crafted mechanised violinist.

After the choir singers had sung their hearts out and the fireworks had finished filling the skies, one observer aptly said, "this puts other towns' shows to shame."
