JUDGES of an annual Lake District Fairy Cake competition at Windermere were dazzled by the mouth-watering array of entries received.
Lindeth Howe hotel’s fairy cake competition – now in its third year – attracted a high standard of entries and judges had an enjoyable time deliberating over the most skilfully decorated and tastiest cakes.
Marc Guibert, the head chef at Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel, who recently created the world’s most expensive dessert, said: “Fairy cakes have become really popular in recent years, which means the standard of entries just keeps getting higher. Marks were given for decoration, taste and originality.”
The winner of the adult category and a five-course dinner for two at the hotel was Christine Dacre, from Barrow, who made a selection of cakes from death by chocolate to a more uniquely flavoured cake made with melted parma violets.
She said: “It’s fantastic to win the competition for the second year in a row, particularly as the other entries looked so good!”
The winner of the under 18s competition was Brynie Barrow, from Kendal.
