A DOG was shot dead by a stranger at Birkrigg Common, near Ulverston on Boxing Day.
A couple were walking their white miniature labradoodle at around 1pm when someone pulled up in a white Ford Transit van or white Landrover and killed the dog with a shot-gun.
The dog's owners, who are from Barrow-in-Furness, believe a man wound down his window to shoot the animal and then drove off at speed.
Police think this is a random attack and are appealing for witnesses to come forward if they saw a white vehicle in the area at the time and contact them on telephone number 101.
The dog's owners were walking behind their pet when the incident happened on Monday and do not know how many people there were in the vehicle.
