VILLAGES across South Lakeland could increase in size by almost a third if all of the proposals in South Lakeland District Council’s land allocation document go ahead.

Burton-in-Kendal, Holme, Endmoor and Swarthmoor are among settlements targeted to make way for more than 100 new homes each.

Endmoor gets one of the most significant allocations – with 100 houses suggested at land adjacent to Sycamore Drive. A further 25 could be at Endmoor Farm.

At Swarthmoor, 125 homes could be added over the next 15 years and at Burton-in-Kendal the council proposes a mixed-use site at Green Dragon Farm for 92 homes and a further 31 at Hutton Close and 23 at Boon Town.

Hall Park at Burneside could be extended by 70 homes while 61 are suggested at Fell Close, Oxenholme.

In the majority of cases the proposed development sites are on greenfield land.
