Murder inquiry after woman dies at Kendal flat

A WOMAN who was burned this morning in an incident at her Kendal home has died in hospital.

Officers and fire crews were called to the address at Crag View just after midnight today.

Following the incident Stacey Mackie, 35, was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and later transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, where she died this afternoon.

A 61-year-old man from Kendal was arrested this morning on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Following Ms Mackie's death, detectives are now undertaking a murder investigation. The man is currently being treated at Furness General Hospital while officers continue their enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the Crag View area of Kendal at around midnight on Thursday, January 26, into the early hours of the following day.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who has spoken to Ms Mackie recently, seen her, or seen her speaking to a man over recent days.
