A WOMAN who aims to cycle 500km from London to Paris has praised local businesses for helping her fundraising mission.
Lynda Leigh, 60, is getting on her bike to raise money for Leukaemia CARE, a small charity which provides support to people affected by the disease and its associated blood disorders.
And Aynam Road-based Probikekit have helped her cause by donating a shirt signed by top British professional road racing cyclist Mark Cavendish for her to auction off.
She said: “I was gobsmacked when it arrived. I have been sending letters to businesses asking for help and they emailed me back asking ‘what do you need?’ I said I really needed a couple of road tyres and they said they would see what they could do.
“Then I received two road tyres, and pair of cycling gloves, loads of gels, water bottles and this signed Mark Cavendish shirt. It was so kind.”
Linda, whose husband Eric was diagnosed with a rare form of leaukaemia about six years ago, wants to raise money for the charity because it gave her ‘great comfort’ by being able to use the services it provides.
Eric is still receiving treatment for the disease in the form of regular blood transfusions at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Linda is holding a fundraising event at Castle Green Hotel on May 4 where the Mark Cavendish shirt and many more items, including a helicopter flight for two will be raffled off.
