Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale councillor Evelyn Westwood has been nominated for a prestigious national award.
Ms Westwood, who has been working with local schools to reduce littering and also to involve younger residents in democratic processess, is up for the Local Government award in the Community Champion of the Year category.
She is the only Cumbrian councillor to be nominated and the winner will be announced at a ceremony in Westminster City Hall on February 27.
Evelyn was elected onto South Lakeland District Council in 2011 and since then she has made a significant positive impact on her community and on the council.
She has been commited to building community spirit and on her nomination form was described was a hard worker who has ‘helped to empower local people and made things happen’.
MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale Tim Farron said: “She is a fantastic local champion for the Western Dales and works incredibly hard.”
