THE 2012 Holiday Guide to the Lake District and Cumbria has been launched ahead of the coming holiday season.
The guide, one of the most popular in the UK, has been produced by Cumbria Tourism and more than 150,000 copies have been printed, with a further 140,000 alerts about the guide being sent out by email.
More than 400 businesses in the county feature in the guide as well as a list of places to stay and eat, things to do, upcoming events and contacts for Tourist Information Centres.
For the first time ever, the guide makes use of QR codes (quick response codes) to promote specific offers and information, including the Go Lakes website.
The codes can store and digitally present much more data than an advert and include URL links and geo co-ordinates, which can all be read by most mobile phones.
Managing director of Cumbria Tourism, Ian Stephens said: “We are really pleased with the look and feel of the 2012 Holiday Guide, which showcases the diversity of what the county has to offer visitors.
“We have already had a large number of enquiries about the new guide and expect even more as we begin the distribution process.”
The guide can be downloaded from www.golakes.co.uk and an e-brochure version is also available.
