TODAY marks the fifth anniversary of the Grayrigg train crash which killed an elderly woman and injured 86 passengers.

In November, an inquest jury at Kendal ruled poorly-maintained railway points caused the 95mph derailment near Kendal.

Margaret Masson, 84, died in the accident, when a Virgin Pendolino en-route to Glasgow leapt into the air and rolled down a 50ft enbankment in 2007.

Network Rail will appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court next Wednesday charged with health and safety breaches over the accident.
