With spring in full swing now, and good weather to boot, I have tracked down a stunning white wine from Italy.
The wine in question is from Piemonte, north western Italy, and is home to the more famous reds: Barolo and Barbaresco, made from nebbiolo grape variety. This week, however, I have found a refreshing white for you to try, made from the cortese grape, which is the same grape variety that makes the iconic wine Gavi. This wine, produced by Araldica Wine Cooperative, is delicious: it's crisp and fresh, and offers terrific value for money.
It has fresh fruit aromas of ripe grapefruit with lovely citrus notes; zingy, juicy and crisp with lemon and lime flavours and mineral touches, finishing with gently zesty acidity. Great with simple fish dishes or perhaps grilled goats cheese with red pepper and fresh basil. Available from Windermere and Ambleside wines at £5.65 a bottle.
Your beer for this week comes from the Hawkshead Brewery at Staveley and is their fine New Zealand Pale Ale. Packed with punchy, green, citrus hop flavours with a dry, bitter finish, try on its own or with fish and chips. Available from the brewery at £3.50 a bottle or on offer at three for £10.
