SCHOOL-LEAVERS can get expert advice on their next steps at a careers event in Kendal on Wednesday (May 2).

Inspira, which has replaced Connexions Cumbria, said the Careers and Options day was targeted at Year 11 students as they approach a key decision-making time.

It follows the Cumbrian launch of the new National Careers Service, which took place at Rheged, near Penrith, on Friday.

The event will be held at the Connexions centre in Kendal between 4pm and 7pm and will enable parents to attend with their children.

Inspira’s South Lakeland area manager, Claire Willett, said: “It is important young people get the right advice about education, training and job opportunities.

“Entering the jobs market for the first time is a daunting experience and in the current climate, young people have to be better informed and more committed than ever if they are to achieve their goals and secure their dream career.”

The Careers and Options evening will introduce young people to colleges and training providers to help them understand the routes to take for their chosen career.

Employers will be on hand to explain want they are looking for in young people and how to gain the necessary skills to make them employable.

There will also be the opportunity to find out how to improve skills and confidence through involvement in such activities as voluntary work.

Event exhibitors include Kendal College, Furness College, Lancaster and Morecambe College, Newton Rigg College, JHP Training, Lancaster Training Services, Construction Skills, JTL training, BTCV employment services and the Armed Forces.
