Excellent timing for maximum traffic disruption in Kendal.

Which bright sparks responsible?

Old ****- No big deal it's a special occasion, people can plan around it, come in early or later, work from home, take the day off - the options are endless

Why, has it been declared a public holiday?

I'm disappointed - I thought the torch was actually going to be carried from Kendal to Carnforth but it looks like it's going to be driven down the A6. :-(

How is the torch getting from Bowness to Kendal then?

It would have been good if they had shown support for the Lakes Line, and taken it on the train!

The torch is specialising in disrupting life throughout the country. Still we must all be grateful for the £9.8bn spent on these games.

Honestly, I feel sorry for those who have no choice but try to get to work, or take the kids to school.
Why have to take the torch ALL the way round Kendal's notorious poorly designed road system.
They should just have set off from Castle Green and turned left over Nether Bridge.

Well that's taken the wind right out of my proverbial sail.. i was looking foreward to some celebratory comments for a once in a life time occurrence.

What a bunch of miserable old goats. This is a moment to cherish!!! Is your journey to work really that important?? With such a terminal morose attitude i hardly think you are improving lives, so do us all a favour and stay in bed. We have a moment of national pride to deliver safely this week and i for one can't wait!!!!!!!!

OMG. When did you drop "miserable" from your name? Get up early on Friday morning and watch thousands of people, especially the young people of Kendal, enjoying themselves.
Perhaps something might rub off on you.

On the basis that you can't destroy wealth, only redistribute it, the £9.8bn has been used to pay companies and their workers for materials, construction workers, all the thousands of people who will find employment before and during the games. Not forgetting the return in taxes paid by all those who are benefiting. Compared with the annual social benefit spend, which was £164.7bn in 2010/2011, the cost of the Olympics isn't great.

I very much doubt it about the "rub off" bit.
I shall await what the true number of spectators are who watch this event with interest.

It's the new test version - like the Beta versions of Windows 8 that are available.

It allows them to find and iron out any flaws before the final verion is released...! :-)

I have checked - the T is a long way from the L on my keyboard... how about yours?

If I set off early, I'd be sat in my car for nearly two hours before the gates were opened. I don't have the option of starting later and certainly not allowed time off at this time of year (due to the industry I work in). What other options do I have?

Making sacrifices out of choice is one thing - but I think Tictoc1 and others dislike having the decision made for them! :-(

I am self employed and can start/finish whenever I like... not.
I have to fit in with my customers needs!

Why is it your world. You sound a bit like a politician to me.
I'll decide what sacrifices I have to make myself, thank you very much.
I noticed the Council workers were out this morning cutting the verge out to Scroggs Lane.
if they had trimmed the grass at the base of the trees it would have looked even better.

Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level.

Why do you assume that everyone works in Kendal?

I am retired so it's not a problem for me, but it will be for others.

Lakeuk says...
8:57pm Tue 19 Jun 12

Old **** - First you complain and now you're saying it's not a problem, make up you mind.

This is beginning to sound like no one actually has a problem with the torch coming through Kendal, it'll be like when the Tour of Britain was in Kendal or Prince Charlies visiting Staveley - no one complained about being inconvenienced at the time

Have you always twisted words around to suit yourself?

I said it's not a problem to me...which it isn't.

But you are implying otherwise.

Do you always speak with forked tongue as the Indian used to say in the old westerns?

Arguing with a fool is like playing chess with a bird, you can defeat it by using
strategy and rational thinking but at the end of the game, the bird is just going to knock over all the pieces and **** everywhere.

Just so you know miserable Old F***, I stood in the rain and watched the torch with my kids this morning. They loved it, I loved it, and I still got to Ambleside at my normal time. No hold ups, no traffic jams. Just a lot of happy people who had witnessed a once in a lifetime event for most of them.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was being sincere when said that I hope everyone enjoyed it.

If my kids were little I would have done the same myself.

This site would be better with some smilies on it so we could post how we feel.

I'm glad that I was proven wrong about the traffic.

There's no need to be like that.

Police did a great job with managing the traffic, turned out roads were open most of the time, with only small sections closed at a time.

Now 45mins after the torch left Kendal there were traffic problems in parts of Kendal - the problem - kids being ferried to school by their parents and local buses to get to school for the later time for 10am

Maybe we could reduce traffic on Kendal's roads by getting kids to walk everywhere ;)

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

And yes, didn't the police do a fantastic job. Kept everything flowing and really good natured. Anyone know if they were local or the same ones that escort the convoy everywhere?

Someone dropped a clanger regarding the geese.

The Police stood by the side of the road before the torch passed were local police called in from Barrow, Kendal Etc. They were there to smile and chat to the public and to be seen doing as much on national TV to raise the profile in the area.
