Bakers chase charity cake of the year title

SOME of South Lakeland’s best bakers are on the medal trail as they prepare for the Cake of the Year Contest.

The Olympic-themed competition will be staged at Windermere’s Briery Wood Hotel on September 1, and a panel of judges is lined up to choose a winner.

They include Border TV presenter Hannah Lomas, and leading food writers Phillipa James and Robert Cockroft.

The contest aims to raise money for Alice Pyne’s charity, Alice’s Escapes, which helps provide respite holidays for families with sick children.

Alice, of Ulverston, is terminally ill with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Details and entry forms are available from Jennifer Braithwaite on 015394 33316 or info@brierywood.co.uk
