Update: Road opened after serious accident near Kirkstone Pass

The A592 at Kirkstone Pass has reopened following a 'serious' two-vehicle crash earlier today.

The road was closed for nearly five hours after a coach and a car collided.

Police, fire crews and the North West Air Ambulance were called to the collision at around 12:12pm.

The woman driver of the Kia Picanto, aged 57 from Kendal and her elderly passenger where both transported to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

The driver is due to be released from hospital but the passenger will remain.

A police spokeswoman said it was unclear at this time the extent of injuries.

All other people involved were not injured.
