Risk of more South Lakeland flooding this weekend

The Environment Agency is warning that there could be a risk of flooding from rivers and surface water during Friday and Saturday.

Latest forecasts show that up to 100mm of rain could fall in the north west starting at 5am tomorrow morning.

They are urging the public to remain vigilant, check local weather forecasts, and the Environment Agency website for information.

Steve Moore, director of the Environment Agency in the North West, said: “Our latest forecasts show that over the next 36 hours, some parts of the North West region could experience very heavy rainfall.

“We are experiencing a period of very unsettled weather and, where necessary, our teams are out monitoring river levels and ensuring that blockages to rivers and drains are removed.”

SLDC will have sandbags available for the public to collect from the following depots: North Lonsdale Road Depot, Ulverston LA12 9DX Ecclerigg Depot, Windermere LA23 1LJ Canal Head Depot, Kendal LA9 7BY

All the depots are open Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm. And the SLDC Contact Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8am – 6pm to deal with any enquiries regarding flooding. The number is 0845 050 4434.

The council’s website is regularly updated with information at www.southlakeland.gov.uk or check out the Environment Agency website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk for more information on flooding.
