Cow escapes onto verge of Staveley carriageway

MOTORISTS got a surprise after a cow escaped onto the verge of a carriageway.

Cumbria Police were called to the scene after the animal was spotted at 7.25pm, on Friday, at the side of the A591, at Staveley.

A local farmer managed to get the cow away from the east bound side of the road and back into its field.

Is there a dual carriageway past Staveley now then?
I haven't noticed it yet - and I drove that way twice on Sunday!

No doubt - and the cow was just going to have a look at the wonder of it all after it had jumped over the moon!

If the little dog laughed, it was probably at the Gazette's reporting of late!

With all due respect to Helen, I don't see any mention of DUAL carriageway.

So it is! :-)

Well done - I would never have thought of looking there!

To be fair some drivers treat many parts of the A591 between Kendal and Windermere as if it were a dual carriageway - not just the Ratherheath stretch! :-(

"the animal was spotted at 7.25pm, on Friday, at the side of the A591, at Staveley."

Sometimes it can take ages to get across there.

Why did the cow cross the carriageway?

Congratulations all... you have got those responses off pat!
I suppose since it was a cow and not a bull, it must have gone on the verge of the carriageway by miss steak?

Why do cows have horns?

To alert traffic when their horns don't work!

Yet again the Gazette got it wrong !! I was traveling along this stretch of road when this happened!! And I actually put my jeep hazard lights on and slowed the oncoming traffic down and made the cars traveling behind me stop completely, as there was 3 cows with calfs running down the road between Ashes Lane and Plantation bridge. The farmer Trevour had been alerted and was making his way on his Quad bike and also anothere farm hand was in the landrover they quickly diverted the cows off the road into a field , mean while I set off of on my way to Kendal and met the police with blue lights flashing at Plumbgarth round about so they were a little late as the cows had been hearded up and put back in the field so they were not on the scene, it was down to me and othere motorist helping slow traffic down and not making the cows panic any more. also got a thank you of the farmer for helpng slow traffic down !!
