EXCITEMENT is reaching fever pitch in Cumbria ahead of the start of the region's biggest music festival, Kendal Calling.

Lowther Deer Park, Hackthorpe, in Eden, is the venue for three days of 'fun the old fashioned way, great times, great entertainment and great friends all in one place.'

Tonight (Friday) will see indie icons Maximo Park headline the main stage.

Fresh from carrying the Olympic Torch, Dizzee Rascal will return to the region for his second festival headlining slot on Saturday.

Then on Sunday, legendary Manchester band James will play a selection of their hits which include Sometimes, Laid and Sit Down.

Further highlights include performances from Feeder, Inspiral Carpets, Dodgy, Shed Seven, We Are Scientists, The View and Tribes.

Local artists such as Blunt Truth and The Feud also feature.

The Westmorland Gazette will be there to report back to you, so expect regular updates throughout the weekend, including reviews and interviews.
