Kendal's Glen Robinson in action at the Olympic Water Polo Arena

KENDAL’S Glen Robinson was part of the squad that lost 13-4 to Romania in Team GB's opening water polo match.

Robinson had an effort in the dying embers of the second quarter but his shot went just over the bar.

Great Britain's hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals are slim because of the tough nature of their group.

Four of the other teams - Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and America - finished in the top four positions in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

There are 13 players in the Team GB water polo squad, including one goalkeeper, six outfield players and six substitutes.

There are four eight-minute sessions and players are not allowed to touch the bottom or sides of the pool during the game.

The match today (Sunday) was the British men’s first Olympic water polo match in 56 years.
