AN MP has spent the night in hospital after falling 14 feet from a ‘dodgy ladder’ at his home.
Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock feared he had broken his neck after the fall, last night.
The politician said he had been ‘an idiot’ for propping up his ladder with a block, while transferring camping chairs into the attic at his Walney home.
His wife Mandy called an ambulance crew which arrived in minutes to strap him to a spinal board and take him to Furness General Hospital, in Barrow.
Mr Woodcock remains at the hospital this morning for scans, but doctors have checked his back and neck and have said they are not broken.
Mr Woodcock said: “I remember the sensation of falling and hitting the ground really hard.
“Impact was incredibly painful but given what could has happened I’m just relieved and grateful to be here.”
“It was my own fault. I didn’t properly secure the ladder. It didn’t reach the floor.
“It went down. I cracked my head on the block and I was just stunned and shouted for help.”
