Chance to discover hidden treasures in Cumbria

CUMBRIANS are being offered the unique opportunity to delve into the archives and discover more about the county's history.

As part of Heritage Open Day Week, which runs from September 6 to 8, Cumbria County Council is holding a series of open days and workshops.

People can book a place for the events which take place at the authority's four archive centres at Kendal, Barrow, Carlisle, and Whitehaven.

In South Lakeland, Tracing Your Westmorland Ancestors takes place at Kendal County Offices, Busher Walk, on September 8 from 10am to midday.

"HERITAGE" open day??? Thats a huge laugh coming from cumbria council. They have as much regard for "heritage" as cumbria has, i.e. none! They know perfectly well that their administrative area, their paper empire is just that and that the Counties it "runs", i.e. Cumberland, Westmorland, my part of Lancashire and a bit of the West Riding continue to exist despite their pretence otherwise. These places have a thousand years of history and heritage and yet these cultural vandals continue to deny their existence. As ever DO THE RESEARCH and get away from the notion that all your ratepayers are thrilled to be "cumbrian", they're not!
