Outgate man appears in court accused of killing his mother

A man appeared before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday accused of killing his 77-year-old mother.

Robert Adam Pierre Archbold, 48, is charged with murdering Jane Archbold, a retired vet, at the home they shared in Outgate, near Hawkshead.

Archbold, dressed in jeans and a white T-shirt, and with his long beard tied in a plait, spoke only to confirm his name during the nine-minute hearing.

He was not asked to enter a plea.

He will do that when he next appears in court in Carlisle, for a plea and case management hearing in front of a High Court judge on the afternoon of November 13.

In the meantime he was remanded in custody.

His barrister Alison Whalley made no application for bail.
