Firefighters tackle barn blaze at Newbiggin

FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a blaze which ripped through two barns at Newbiggin on Friday night.

Two crews from Penrith were called to Prospect House and found both two-storey structures well alight.

The scale of the fire prompted the officer in charge at the scene to call for two further engines - one from Shap and another from Carlisle.

Firefighters used hose reels, main jets and a foam branch to tackle the flames.

A water bowser and Environmental Protection Unit were also called in.

The barns contained a number of tractors, oil drums and petrol.
