Volunteers needed to deliver community meals
4:00pm Tuesday 11th September 2012 in News
OPPORTUNITIES are available for new volunteers to help deliver community meals to people in South Lakeland.
Cumbria CVS is seeking volunteers to contribute to the service, which currently serves up 70,000 meals a year, on behalf of Cumbria County Council.
As well as providing an essential hot meal, the service also offers important social interaction to people who may otherwise feel isolated.
The service has exciting opportunities for volunteers across the county. Volunteer drivers, helpers and organisers are especially welcome in Kendal and Grange-over-Sands.
Jozi Brown, from Cumbria CVS, said: “Great opportunities are opening up for volunteers who would like to contribute to this essential service. As well as drivers, helpers and organisers there are roles for people who want to provide more than just a meals service – by giving extra support and help tailored to individual need.
“People need more than just food. If you are isolated and lonely you look forward to seeing a friendly face and having contact with the outside world. People need to know what is going on in the world and feel a part of society. We will be looking for volunteers who are willing and able to assist with other aspects of their lives and support links with the local community.”
