MP calls on new roads minister to visit 'dangerous' Greenodd junction
2:42pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in News
BARROW and Furness MP John Woodcock has written to new roads minister Stephen Hammond to urge him to keep his predecessor’s promise to visit the ‘dangerous’ A590 road junction at Greenodd.
Following a long-running campaign to provide a roundabout at the junction, former roads minister Mike Penning had agreed to visit south Cumbria next week to see the situation for himself. Following the government reshuffle, it is unclear whether Mr Hammond will keep to this promise.
“We’ve been waiting a very long time for a minister to come and visit the fatal junction at Greenodd,” said Mr Woodcock. “The junction layout has been the cause of numerous accidents, but also leads to long tailbacks and delays for people travelling to and from Ulverston and Barrow.
“Having finally got a date for a minister to visit Greenodd, it would be a major blow if the reshuffle led to this being postponed once again. That’s why I have written to Stephen Hammond to ask him to commit to visiting. We need urgent action to provide a roundabout at Greenodd and the sooner a minister sees the situation for themselves, the sooner that is likely to come.”

Every day I see some form of stupidity on the roads, and after seeing the sort of training my son received, I find I am not surprised.
When I asked if his instructor had taken advantage of the snow last year to show him how to cope, he explained that the insurance company would not permit learning in snow in the instructors vehicle!
Many of the hazard perception test questions were multiple choice - so you could guess and possible get them all right!
