Coniston brewery wins supreme ale award

A SOUTH Lakeland beer was crowned the ‘Best in Britain’ after being described by judges as having ‘fantastic finesse’.
Coniston Brewery’s No.9 Barley Wine was hailed the supreme champion at a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) festival, fighting off a host of other finalists to take the top spot.
Managing director of the brewery Ian Bradley said: “We are very happy to win 14 years after the last time we won, and we knew we were in the compeition but did not expect to come first.
“It is an outstandingly tasty beer and on the day it was perfect. My thanks go to all my staff, suppliers and supporters.”
And Cumbrian Legendary Ales also went home with a prize.
The Hawkshead-based brewery claimed silver for its Langdale beer in the Golden Ale Category.
Brewery owner Roger Humphreys said: ”We are delighted to receive this prestigious CAMRA award and pay tribute to the outstanding team at the brewery in bringing about this success.”
