THE daughter of Cumbria’s Lord Lieutenant hosted a special meeting to thank medical workers who saved her life when she was involved in a horse accident earlier this year.

Sarah Cropper came crashing to the ground when she fell from her mount while out on a canter from riding stables near Kendal in April.

Despite suffering severe crush injuries on the left side of her body, Ms Cropper, who is the daughter of James Cropper, managed to get herself to Westmorland General Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Paramedics Roxy Farris and Douglas Davies picked her up from the Kendal hospital, “I just remember them being there for me," said Mrs Cropper. "I was really worried about my collar bone. I remember they didn't leave me even when we got to hospital. They stayed with me the whole time - which seemed like forever."

Mr Davies said he was aware Ms Cropper was suffering from internal bleeding and had a punctured lung but did not tell her.

She remained in intensive care for eight days and has since had metal plates added to her left collar bone and her hand operated on.

"It wasn't until two days after the accident that I realised how serious my condition was,” said Ms Cropper. "I nearly popped my clogs.”

Once Ms Cropper came out of hospital she suffered a panic attack which brought three more paramedics - Chris Rhind, Gavin Millar and Michelle Doherty – to her home.

"I can't thank you all enough," said Ms Cropper at a special meeting hosted at the Kendal Ambulance Station, on Busher Walk.

Mrs Cropper has not been on a horse since the accident but said she has started mountain biking as she enjoys outdoor pursuits.
