Beetham actress stars alongside seasoned actor in Shakespeare play

A RISING actress from Beetham shared the stage with seasoned actor Tim Woodward in a performance of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing.

Emily Houghton, 26, who attended Casterton School near Kirkby Lonsdale, played the part of Margaret in front of a 600-strong audience at Ludlow Festival of Arts in Shropshire.

She was the youngest cast member in what was her first professional role in a Shakespeare production.

Emily left Casterton School in 2004 and recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art where, coincidentally, one of her career mentors was Mr Woodward.

She said: “My love of acting was further fired at Casterton School by the total commitment of the drama department and, in particular, Mrs Marriott, who never failed to inspire me and still does today.”

Emily continues to audition for other projects and works as a teaching assistant, using her acting techniques to help autistic children to develop their communication skills.
