Appleby set to flood today, say officials

FLOODING is now officially expected at Appleby-in-Westmorland as rain continues and waters rise.
Low lying roads, and homes and businesses close to the River Eden, at Appleby, including the Sands have been told to expect flooding Environment Agency officers said the river was expected to rise until mid-afternoon with rain forecast to last throughout the day.
The Carlisle to Settle railway has been closed at the town, while reports said the flooding siren is also sounding across the area.
