Four flood warnings in Cumbria as waters rise at Appleby

RISKS of flooding will remain for the next 24 hours, weather experts have warned.
The Environment Agency has issued 37 flood alerts (meaning that flooding is possible) and 20 flood warnings (meaning that flooding is expected) in the North West this morning.
They said it was likely more flood warnings would be issued later today. They said up to 20-30mm of rain was expected across the region in the next 24 hours.
Teams are currently at work across the county, clearing debris screens and removing blockages.
North West director Steve Moore said: “We are expecting persistent and heavy rainfall to continue throughout Tuesday. “We strongly urge people to sign up to flood warnings, check our website, follow us on twitter @EnvAgencyNW and keep a close eye on local weather forecasts to be prepared for the possibility of flooding.
"We also ask that people stay away from rivers and do not attempt to drive or walk through floodwater.”
There are currently four flood warnings in Cumbria, at Appleby Sands, Bolton, Cummersdale and Calder.
The Environment Agency said it expected Appleby waters to peak at 3pm. The flood gates have been raised at Appleby Sands.
