Call for foster carers in Penrith and Eden

MORE foster carers are needed in Penrith and Eden to transform the lives of vulnerable children, Cumbria County Council says.

In a bid to find new recruits, the council has organised an information session to show what becoming a foster carer would entail.

Leaflets have been delivered to homes across the area and anyone interested in finding out more can attend the event on Thursday, October 4, at 6pm.

During the session, applicants will be shown a short film made by some local carers and children, looking at their experiences.

Members of the council’s fostering team will also be on hand to discuss and answer any questions.

While carers are required through the whole county, Penrith and Eden have been identified as having a particular need.

Coun Anne Burns, the council’s member for children’s social care, said: “Giving children a safe and loving environment where they can develop and grow is just about the most important and worthwhile thing anybody could do.

“I’d call on people thinking about fostering in the Penrith and Eden area to come along to the information session to find out what it involves.

“It would be a good chance for them to meet members of our fostering team and learn about how they can transform the lives of vulnerable children by becoming foster carers.”
