Driver unharmed after reports of 'car driving wrong way down M6'

POLICE were called to the M6 between Shap and Kendal this afternoon after reports of a car being driven the wrong way down the southbound carriageway.

Officers were called at 2.45pm and found a black Ford Ka on the hard shoulder facing the wrong direction. They found it had actually spun out of control and ended up that way round between junctions 38 and 37.

The driver, a man from Surrey, was uninjured in the incident, and officers from the Highways Agency helped clear the scene.

Traffic was slow in the vicinity for a short time but has now returned to normal.
