Cyclist seriously injured after Wrynose Pass crash

A CYCLIST was seriously hurt after crashing at high speed on Wrynose Pass on Sunday.

Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team volunteers came across the accident by chance as they returned from a training event in the Duddon Valley shortly before 3.40pm and dispatched other team members.

The 36-year-old male rider suffered serious head and face injuries as he travelled between Langdale and Cockley Beck.

He was stabilised while further help arrived before being taken to the Royal Preston Hospital via air ambulance.

The man’s condition is described as stable.

A LAMRT spokesman said: “It proved very difficult to get through traffic due to tailbacks caused by the road blockage, but the team managed and were able to provide first aid and stretcher transport to a suitable landing site.

“The man was evacuated to hospital.”
