Man sought after charity box theft from Cumbrian train station

BRITISH Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with the theft of a charity box from a Cumbrian train station.

Second-hand books are being sold in the booking office at Penrith station as part of a fund-raising drive for the British Heart Foundation.

But when station staff performed a check of the area on the afternoon of September 27, they noticed the payment box had been taken.

British Transport Police believe the man pictured has key information in relation to the theft.

He was seen boarding a TransPennine Express service to Oxenholme and officers believe it is possible he either lives, or knows someone, in the area.

PC Darren Rogers said: “Any theft is unacceptable and a violation. When the victim is a charity, it makes the theft particularly heinous.

“It is imperative that we trace the man as soon as possible as he may hold the key to getting the money back to the British Heart Foundation.”

Anyone who believes they recognise the man, or has information about the theft, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

In all calls, the public is asked to quote background log B4/NWA of 8/10/12.
