Update: Police name man who died in Eden house fire

POLICE in Penrith have named the man who died in a house fire yesterday morning.

John Howard Bell, 66, died in the blaze at Tyne Close Avenue, despite efforts by paramedics to revive him.

The police and fire services were alerted by a member of the public to the fire at around 9.15am, and told a man may still be inside the house.

On arrival the fire crews from Penrith, Shap and Carlisle East found that the blaze had taken hold in the ground floor of the property.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus went into the property and rescued Mr Bell, commonly known as Howard. 

He was given first aid at the scene before being transferred to the care of paramedics, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are trying to piece together the cause of the fire. A police statement said that there are no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Bell's family has been informed and the case has been passed to the coroner.
