When the Riverdance vessel was stricken near Cleveleys, a trailer was lost from the top deck containing around 300 barrels of tallow (a total of 22 tonnes).
Over half were recovered in the immediate area very soon afterwards, and at least three have since been removed from Sunderland Point on the Lune Estuary.
Six barrels of tallow were found on the shore at Cark during this clean up and arrangements have been made for their removal. Meanwhile the seagulls will feast on the fat!
It must be emphasized that the material contained is entirely non-hazardous and of no danger what-so-ever. Furthermore that the owners of the Riverdance have been responsible and co-operative in efforts to reduce the impact of the vessel and remove and clean up any lost cargo.
Should anyone locate further barrels which require removal - please sent a message with contact details and a grid reference of the site to info@morecambebay.org.uk
