Car park improvements planned

2:38pm Tuesday 28th October 2008

MAJOR new improvement works are planned for Main Street car park in Grange-over-Sands.

South Lakeland District Council is undertaking works to the layout of the 92-space multi tariff car park, with a plan to completely revamp the site.

The area will be resurfaced and relined and new lighting will be installed, along with three additional disabled parking spaces and parking for cycles and motorcycles.

Peter Last, maintenance engineer at SLDC said: “It’s long overdue. There’s a lot of flooding history in the area and we’ve not been able to make much headway because of the underlying problems that the environmental agency needed to sort out. But it’s got to the point now where it needs a refurb.”

Mr Last said that they are currently waiting for the environmental agency to finish drainage and flood protection work but he hoped that the work will begin in the New Year and expected it to take around 14 weeks.

He explained that people who use the car park to access their homes would be provided with free parking permits for Windermere Road.
