POLICE have confirmed that the male driver of a car involved in a collision with a train has died at the scene.

The incident occurred shortly before 12.40pm today on Wraysholme crossing, Flookburgh.

Officers said that none of the 32 passengers on board the Carlisle to Lancaster train have been injured.

All passengers have been taken to Grange railway station and alternative transport is being arranged.

The line is closed around the area and the B5277 that leads Down to the level crossing also remains closed.

Expect delays of up to 45 minutes on Northern Rail between Barrow-in-Furness and Lancaster. National Rail do not currently have an estimate as to when a normal service will resume. The incident is also affecting Transpennine Express services.
