BRITISH Transport Police say a man’s body found on the West Coast Main Line at Holme had injuries consistent with being struck by a train.

The line was closed from 8.30am for around one and a half hours after the driver of a London-bound train saw the body on the track near Moss Lane, Holme.

A BTP spokesman said: “The cause of the death is unexplained at this stage but investigations are underway. However, it appears from the injuries that the dead man was struck by a train.

"Forensic officers are having to use fingerprints to try and identify the dead man."

Network Rail spokesman Keith Lumley said: "The body was removed at 10.15 am and train services are on the move, but passengers should expect delays as services slowly get back to normal."
