Quaker events at Yealand

A RANGE of events are being held in the Yealand Conyers’ Meeting House during the first week of October to mark National ‘Quaker Week.’ The week is a time when the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) celebrate Quaker values and practices. It is an invitation for everyone, regardless of their current personal views, to find out more about the ‘Quaker Way’ of life.

The week gets started on October 7 (7pm) with the former Director General of Oxfam, Brian Walker, speaking on Thomas Paine and the Quakers. The following day (3pm) author and lecturer Rex Ambler explains ‘The Quaker Way while on October 9 (7pm) the former head of current affairs at Granada TV David Boulton will talk on ‘Why I am a Quaker.’ On October 10 (7pm) Jenny Foot will lead a mediation on peace while on a more informal basis everyone is also invited to a musical evening with local Quakers on Weds Oct 8 (7pm) or a guided walk of Yealand Conyers with local historian and Quaker, Jim Jarvis, followed by ‘ Waffles’, on October 11 (2.30 pm).

A short Introduction to Quaker Worship will also be given prior to Meeting for Worship on Sunday, October 5 and Sunday, October12 at 9.45am, followed by refreshments.
