Water pipe renewal begins

11:47am Tuesday 21st October 2008

FLOOKBURGH’S water supplies look set to be improved and become more secure as part of a multi-million pound programme.

United Utilities has begun replacing old cast iron pipes on Main Street with a modern plastic system.

The work, which began yesterday, should take around three weeks to complete.

Project engineer Paul Wheadon said: “We apologise for any inconvenience and would ask local residents in Flookburgh to bear with us while we carry out this essential work.

“The investment will improve the reliability of the water supply for local residents. Some of the pipes in the area have simply reached the end of their lifespan and need replacing.”

Engineers will start at Main Street’s junction with Station Road and end at its junction with Winder Lane. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation.
