PASSIONATE objections were raised in Cartmel tonight (Monday) when hundreds of local people gathered to discuss controversial plans for a windfarm in the area.
Organised by Stop Turbines On Peninsula (STOP), the meeting saw the village hall literally overflowing with concerned residents.
STOP is an action group that was set up by Cartmel residents in May to fight Energia in Natura’s proposal to site six 125 metre turbines on the nearby ridges of Stribers and Ellerside.
At tonight's meeting, Stephanie Leadbetter, secretary of STOP, gave an emotionally charged speech and said she was "overwhelmed" by the turnout.
Mrs Leadbetter was followed by Dr Mike Hall, the vice chairman of the Friends of Eden, Lakeland and Lunesdale Scenery, who gave a detailed presentation highlighting some key statistics, and STOP chairman, Malcolm Leadbetter, who used photographs to demonstrate the possible visual impact of the windfarm.
