ANIMAL rights activists have challenged claims that fox hunting is more popular than ever after more than 1,000 spectators gathered at The Longlands, at Tewitfield, near Carnforth, to see 80 horses and riders take part in the traditional Boxing Day hunt.

THE head teacher of Milnthorpe’s Dallam School, Steve Holdup, will speak about how a 50-bedroom boarding accommodation block fits into the governor’s strategy for the future development of the Heversham site when he addresses next Tuesday night’s meeting (December 9) of the Kent Estuary Neighbourhood Forum at Preston Patrick Memorial Hall. Also speaking at the meeting, which starts at 7pm, is Jim Grisenthwaite, Head of Culture for Cumbria County Council, who will speak about the main elements of his job, including the county’s Library and Archive Services.
